U Bein bridge in Myanmar is the longest teak bridge in the world. Distinctive and graceful, it glows at sunset. Arriving there on a weekend, there were too many people on the bridge to take the photos I wanted up there, so I wandered underneath, to find this lovely girl seeming to hide under there to get away from the hustle and bustle above her, like me.
Loved the graceful curve of her body against the wood, the glowing color, and sense of calm.

The tiny village this little one lived in was strikingly beautiful - alongside a river but up in the trees, cool and calm, small paths among thatched houses, fences made of slender branches woven together, graceful and delicate.
I was so taken with the people I barely photographed the place, to my chagrin.

These are two of the many orphan kids running around. No money for school, no public programs to give them much of anything, many of them soon become monks because the monastery will care for them.
They didn't know what to make of me, but boy did they get snuggly when they realized I was going to stick around awhile. We caught frogs together for awhile until they scampered off.
Burma - Yangon - Shwedagon pagoda at night from rooftop

From the rooftop of the Yuzana Hotel in Yangon, the capital city of Myanmar, the massive hilltop Shwedagon Pagoda lights up the sky. I didn't get a chance to go to the pagoda itself, as when I returned to Yangon on my way out of the country I had been robbed and had no money left for the entrance fee. I had seen soooo many temples and pagodas by that time that even the wonder of Shwedagon might not have impressed my heat addled head. :)
I shall have to content myself with my rooftop photos from afar, the jewel on the hill.

So many of the Burmese people got so serious the moment the camera pointed their way, even if they were moments before laughing and giggling and wanting to be in front of the camera. Only her tiny smile betrays this lovely girl's true feelings - barely suppressed excitement and a bit of awe at all I represented.

I needed a lift, so I wandered back into my Burma images to find hidden gems.
I remember so much when I see them, the moment I snapped the shutter, the lyrical grace of this mother and child, the bright morning light, the smells. Memory quickly fades, but for me, these photographs keep it alive, tiny instants that maybe only I saw, and were gone as fast as they came.

From http://www.iht.com/articles/2005/05/18/news/burma.php#:
I kept coming across traumatized people - ragged, terrified and on the run. Many of them had wounds. Almost every conversation began with, 'When they came and burned the village.'
