In Burmese they're called "nat kadaws" - women who have been chosen as brides by spirits known as nats. They "channel" the nats at all-night all-day ceremonies where they go into convulsive trances, forecast the future and give advice. It's so wild they have to have assistants to keep them from hurting themselves.
