at sea - venezuela to brazil

From imagine if you could realize a once in a lifetime dream... twice:

Wow, The days at sea go by so quickly. Its been awhile since Ive written in here so Ill try to sum the past 6 days up as best I can before we actually dock here in Salvador. And Ive got tons & tons of class on A days All 5 of them, with 3 in a row in the morning, a 2 hour break for lunch, then 2 more. Usually I just relax and hang out with friends in the evenings on A days b/c my brain is fried & I couldnt really get much of my work done if I wanted to LoL B days will always be my favorite ship days b/c after global studies its pretty much like a vacation/study out on the pool deck all day sort of affair. Usually Ill get most of my homework done by dinner time :)

On the 8th we had to hand in our field trip choices for sale #1 which included the rest of the day trips in Brazil, South Africa, Kenya, & India as well as the overnight trips for Vietnam, Hong Kong, & Japan. The day trips for Myanmar, Vietnam, Hong Kong, & Japan are sold in another sale sometime in the next few weeks. I was sooooooo nervous the whole time we were waiting to hear what trips we all got. I talked to so many people who were just like oh I signed up for the Cambodia trip just b/c my friends did what the heck happened in Cambodia anyway?. Theres 2 trips of it with only 60 people per trip so those are the people I wanted to toss overboard LoL

Amazingly I did get the Cambodia trip that I wanted. I keep looking at my list of confirmed trips just to make sure it still says Cambodia: Phnom Penh & Angkor Wat Group A, hehe. I got a few other day trips too A service project in Brazil, a township tour in South Africa, Bombalulu crafts center in Kenya, Welcome reception in India, Orphanage visit in India, and another couple that I dont remember the name of. Didnt get the other service project I wanted in Brazil or the Habitat for Humanity thing I wanted in South Africa but oh well. My biggest concern was the Cambodia trip & I got that so Im more than happy :)

During this stretch at sea I learned that I do indeed get sea sick. Meclizine is so my new best friend (the free sea sick medicine that they have @ the clinic). I guess we got spoiled on summer 04 when we only had waves bigger than 4 or 5 feet maybe twice or three times throughout the whole voyage. It was 6-7 foot waves for like 3 or 4 days in a row. Makes me wonder how the spring 05 kids managed all those crazy waves.

We crossed the equator a few days ago but have not yet had Neptune Day. They gave us some excuse about the academic calendar & all that and said that were gonna have Neptune day on the 20th (3rd day at sea after Brazil). But a day of class off is a day of class off no matter when you have it. Neptune day is sorta gonna lose some of its appeal when its like a week late LoL

Yesterday Cathryn, Fred, & I were finally able to book flights to Rio so we can hang out with Victor at his place for 3 days. Im really excited b/c well get to hang out with Victor for a few more days and have an awesome time in Rio with him showing us around. We ended up paying more than we would have liked but it took like a day too long to find a website that did etickets and didnt require a brazil social security #, oops. Tomorrow Im just gonna wander around Salvador with a few people, then I have the welcome reception from 8-midnight. Then Wednesday well be heading to Rio :)
